Tips for a perfect lawn

Frequently asked questions about lawn care:
Why should you apply lime to a lawn?
Grass cuttings and leaves on the lawn form organic acids when they rot, which can reduce the pH value of the soil. This can have a negative impact on grass growth. Lime can improve the pH value, however, and improve the nutrients in the soil, which means the lawn can grow properly again. Lime should be applied to a lawn in spring, as soon as the ground is no longer frozen. With the SOLO granulate spreader, you can distribute the granulated lime evenly over the whole lawn after scarification or aeration. By loosening the soil in advance, the lime can penetrate the soil better and thus take full effect. For optimal results, you should apply lime to your lawn every 4 weeks.
Why use sand in lawn care?
Sand is often used to promote the growth of a lawn. It enlarges the pores in the soil, which means that the roots can be better supplied with water and air.
It is often mixed with the seed for reseeding, too, so that damaged patches of lawn can grow back more strongly, after scarification or weedkilling for example. Sand is one of the best ways of caring for your lawn and it can be spread frequently over the lawn area. Ensure that you do not use too much sand, however: the lawn should not be completely covered with it.

Why fertilise a lawn and with what?
A healthy green lawn requires valuable nutrients such as potassium, phosphorous and nitrogen. Depending on the time of year, however, your lawn will need other lawn fertilisers to remain beautiful, green, thick and weed-free. These can be spread quickly and evenly with the SOLO granulate spreader. Even distribution and correct quantities are crucial here, as over-fertilisation should be avoided. After fertilising, you should water your lawn well so that the soil can absorb the nutrients in the fertiliser better.
Moss on your lawn?
Moss often grows when the lawn is undernourished, the soil quality is poor or it has been overwatered. Especially when there is little sun, moss grows on the lawn. Lime can be applied to improve the soil and add nutrients to it; lime can also be used if the pH value of the soil is below 6. This adds valuable nutrients to the lawn and improves the soil. Special fertilisers can also be used to keep your lawn beautifully moss-free.
When should you resow your lawn?
If your lawn has bald patches and gaps, it is worth reseeding it. In the case of moss growth and heavily scarified lawn areas, reseeding also makes sense. Ideally, reseeding should be carried out after scarification, aeration or application of sand. You should use the same seeds as were used to grow your lawn in the first place to maintain its even, attractive appearance.

Granulate spreader from SOLO for sowing seeds, maintenance and protection

SOLO The better choice. Since 1948.

Whether it’s after scarification, for fertilisers, seeds, slug pellets, gritting salt, granulated lime, bird food, other animal food, oil absorber, sand, detergent or any other similar granulated materials: the SOLO 421 granulate spreader is made for all-year-round use – for private and professional applications.

Granulate spreader with high coverage

The SOLO granulate spreader is operated by manual crank, which makes the spreader disc rotate and thus ensures a very precise lateral distribution of the granulate over the area. The unrivalled lateral distribution achieves coverage of approx. 5,000 m² an hour – meaning that it can even keep up with the level of large agricultural spreaders. A container volume of 9 l ensures fast working progress. It is also completely corrosion free and easy to clean. As you wear it in front of your chest and stomach, it can also be used in areas that are difficult to access or steeper – for example, in areas where a device on wheels is less suitable. The integrated agitator keeps the granules in the container moving at all times. This prevents the granules from clumping and ensures an even flow rate and exact distribution. The direction of spreading and the delivery rate can also be set individually.

The SOLO granulate spreader for more convenient application

The spreader is carried on the front of the body with an individually adjustable comfort strap. The large filling aperture of the granulate spreader also makes it easier to fill, the large screw cover on the other hand protects the user from harmful dust. The frame made of strong plastic and the ergonomically shaped back ensure that the device is absolutely stable and makes it comfortable to wear for light and easy application.
